I know you don't like Facebook, but I find their "People you may know" tool pretty good at suggesting/discovering people.

Personally, I haven't worked out how to use Twitter yet.

I'm keen to improve our events, and the AGM is specially important.

I take the point about knowing candidates. Trouble is that hustings for 23 candidates would have taken a very long time. I guess it does rely on getting to know people over the year.

A bit confused about networking opportunities - we always have networking time after events and last night there was wine and food available as usual - people were still there chatting at 9pm.

Publishing a twitter hashtag in future a good idea.

Not sure if there is some confusion in your post between Manchester Digital and MDDA - different organisations, although we work closely.

Good points. I'm always slightly amazed at the lack of integration between both the communities and the technologies these communities use. It's frustrating to see people divided into in-groups simply because they're not communicating with each other. Twitter and similar technologies can overcome this by allowing people to make basic introductory contact with each other before meeting up in person, but this doesn't work if, as you say, the communication channels aren't aligned properly.

Thanks for this post, it sums up some of what I hope to write later. In my opinion, any major digital event these days should have a hashtag announced in publicity - to aid networking, but also, for the organisers, to track coverage of their event.

Hope to meet you at future events!
